The Scientific Method by Francesco Gianani

During this Year 7, in Science, we saw many different topics.

I decided to talk about the Scientific Method because I think it’s the basics of Science.

The scientific method is a process which stations facts by examining and testing.

It is divided into five different steps which are: making an observation, searching for background research, thinking of a possible hypothesis, doing the experiment and finally explaining the results.

At the beginning, you need to ask yourself a question using the five W?.

After you ask yourself a question, you need to search for background research. This means to use the internet or books as a source of information to not mess up the experiment. Next, you need to think about a possible result of the experiment. This step is called hypothesis. The hypothesis needs to start with ‘if’ because you aren’t sure of your statement. Then, you need to do the experiment. During the experiment you will see if your hypothesis was correct. You need to try the experiment more than once and be careful not to change more than a factor at a time. To conclude, you need to check if your hypothesis is correct. If it isn’t, you need to construct a new one by the data collected during the experiment.                  

The scientific method wasn’t invented by a specific scientist. However, Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, was one of the first people to promote it. Instead, the Arab Muslim mathematician and scientist Hasan Ibn al-Haytham was one of the first people to have written about the importance of experiments.

Further on, many scientists wrote about the scientific method such as: Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton. The scientific method has always developed and is still developing today.

 

In conclusion, the scientific method is an important topic to study at the beginning of Science classes because it gives you the possibility of experimenting and testing the world that surrounds you.
