This week in Nursery we’ve been learning all about colours, and linking them to emotions using the story of ‘The Colour Monster’. The book tells the story of a monster who’s colours are all mixed up, because his feelings are mixed up, too. Each colour relates to a different emotion: yellow is happy, blue is sad, red is angry, black is scared, green is calm and pink is love. After reading the book we coloured our own monsters with paint and crayons. The children could choose one colour or colour their monsters all mixed up!
For show-and-tell we wore our most colourful clothes! We sang our “Have you seen my friend ___ s/he is wearing ___ today” song, and matched colour flashcards too our clothes:
Then sang the same song with our emotions “S/he is feeling ___ today”:
We also had a go at acting out the colour monster’s emotions!
During heuristic play we explored a colour sensory tray, dancing to music with coloured scarves!
Last week the UK celebrated Pancake Day, a day to mark the countdown to Easter when everybody eats pancakes! So in our exploring food session we decorated pancakes with red strawberries, green kiwi and blueberries:
We practised fine motor skills by learning how to match pegs to coloured paper:
And by using pipettes to squirt and mix yellow and blue water to change the colours:
