This week in Nursery our activities will be all about SHAPES! We will be introducing the words ‘circle’, ‘square’, ‘rectangle’, ‘triangle’, ‘star’ and ‘heart’ as vocabulary.
The first activity we did was printing using sponges cut into the shape of a triangle, square and circle:
Then at carpet time we played a shape themed mystery bag!:
In our role play session we played supermarket using different shaped foods and objects. There were rectangle cards, triangle pizza and cheese, circular cakes and biscuits, and square bread:
On Wednesday we played with a circle themed sensory tray. Inside there were lentils, hoops, balls, pots and pans, and more. The children especially liked using their fine motor skills to pick up the tiny lentils and put them into the different circular containers:
And in cooking our cooking session we made biscuits using different shaped cookie cutters. We made hearts, circles, squares and triangles:
To practise fine motor skills and shape recognition, we made shape collages:
And on Friday we had loads of fun playing with shapes in a bubbly water tray!:
Our next topic will be RED & SHINY THINGS!
