This week in Nursery we are continuing the topic of Autumn, and the first thing we did was to make autumnal tree paintings. The children explored the different ways they could make marks using paint, pegs and pom poms, and how the green, yellow and red paints changed colours as they mixed together.
The theme for this week’s show-and-tell was ‘autumn natural objects’ that you might find while out for a walk together, and the children brought in a lot of interesting things to look at, feel and talk about. We had acorns, leaves, pomegranates, chestnuts, bark, sticks and more. We talked about how the leaves and acorns were different colours at their different stages, and saw that some of the pomegranates were big while others were small. Some of the leaves were shiny, some furry, and some crunchy. Thank you for bringing so many different things in!
In our role play session we tried out different masks of forest animals that we might see in the autumn. This introduced new animal vocabulary and we made some funny noises!
In our cooking session we made chocolate cornflake cakes, by mixing together melted chocolate and cornflakes then scooping it into cases. It smelled delicious!
We used the show-and-tell materials and brown paint to make beautiful autumn wreaths!
And planted some cauliflower plants in the vegetable patch. Hopefully these will grow throughout the season and we will have some delicious vegetables ready for the winter!
