Now that the Nursery class are settled into school, we began our first topic: Exploring Yellow!
We started off by working together to paint a giant piece of paper yellow, to use to make a display for the wall. Using the big handled paintbrushes and a large surface area was good practice for developing wrist muscles!
We had plenty of fine motor finger and thumb practice too, by using pipettes to squirt yellow water…
Making yellow collages using fiddly buttons, pom poms and pieces of paper…
Painting using cotton buds…
And gluing tissue paper to make sun flowers!
During our “Exploring Food” session we tried smelling, tasting and squeezing lemons. Licking them resulted in some interesting faces!
We saved the seeds from the lemons and went to plant them outside!
We also got messy exploring yellow spaghetti! This was a great sensory activity as it involved feeling, tasting and practising using spoons for self care.
During our “Heuristic Play” session the children were provided with different sized containers made from different materials, filled with yellow rice. They were allowed the freedom to explore them using their own ideas and imagination, and discovered that they made different noises and volumes when shaken…
They could be stacked, counted and tapped to make different sounds…
And slowly tilted to watch and hear the rice trickle from one side to the other!
There was also a celebration to be had as Diletta turned 2! Happy Birthday!
And we got to use our new rainsuits and boots to continue enjoying the school grounds despite some rainy days!
Our next topic will be a class project titled… ALL ABOUT ME!
