Our first topic of exploration at the beginning of the new year was ‘Winter’. We started with some wintery colours like blue and white and the children brought in some objects from home for ‘Show-and-tell‘. We had lots of fun mixing colours to make new colours such as mixing blue and white to make light blue, and black and white to make grey. We used ‘loose parts’, such as white cleansing pads, material, buttons, cotton wool and twigs to make a snowman collage.
We looked at lots of books about the Winter season and played ‘Bingo‘ with clothing items. Everyday we sang the winter clothes song and got wrapped up in our warm suits, jackets, hats, scarves and boots to go play outdoors.

The children were very excited to ‘rescue’ the animals that were trapped in ice and we used heat to help melt the ice and then hammered and hammered until the animals were free. We learnt that polar bears live in the ‘North Pole’ while penguins live in the ‘South Pole‘ and made some crafts for our classroom display.
During ‘Cooking lab’ we made some yummy ‘marshmallow snacks’ which we dipped in warm chocolate and sprinkles as well as some chocolate chip snowflake and snowmen biscuits.
We practised our ‘math skills’ by counting buttons to match the numbers on the snowman’s hat and made shapes with sticks. The children practised cutting along lines to help develop their ‘scissor control‘ and they started ‘pencil control worksheets’ where they need to trace along the lines.
Zoom lessons: For this past week Preschool Blue have been attending Zoom lessons from home; they have participated in all activities and have shown good levels of interest and curiosity. Here below are photos of their ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ crafts and our ‘Cooking lab’ from today, where we made some yummy sandwiches!
Seesaw: the children have also been completing their worksheets daily on Seesaw and I am very proud of their hard work and their achievements; great job everyone!
The topic for next week is ‘Emotions’ and I look forward to seeing everyone back in class on Tuesday!
