Hello all,

“Fall/Autumn” was full of Fall excitement! Read on below to learn about all the fun that was had this month and learning that took place.

Literacy:

The children learned to sequence various stories such as The Lion and The Mouse as well as The Boy Who Cried Wolf, which the children performed as a puppet show.

Maths:

Shapes – children learned the difference between 2D and 3D shapes, their properties (faces- vertices- edges) by doing hands-on activities, sorting games and outdoor shape hunts.

Subtraction and Number bonds within 20 – recognise that different pairs of numbers add up to the larger number. We have been learning to also recognize and write words from 1 to 20.

Outdoor learning – it’s great to have the outdoor space to roam and use natural materials whenever possible. We used this time to reinforce our learning objectives by building shapes as well as patterns in addition to phonics games.

Topic: Wonferful Weather – Of course, there was a lot of rainy weather during this period. The children learned to describe the weather, the 4 Seasons and why different parts of the Earth are cold and hot.

Science: Animals including humans –

Through sorting activities and matching games, the children learned to distinguish the structure of different animals. They also learned about animal diets and to identify carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. This was a fun unit that the children enjoyed.

UDA: Living. Learning. Together. –

This area of learning focuses on encouraging each child to become emotionally and physically effective and to become confident, responsible citizens.

The children learned the story of their names and shared this with the class. They also made a collage and wrote a sentence about this.

Can you believe that? The classroom erupted with laughter when the children realized that some of their names sounded different in English (i.e. Giovanni / John)!

We also discussed the many ways we are each unique and talked about how our fingerprints are unique to each of us. We then made an autumn painting using just our fingerprints.

ICT: The children really enjoy using chromebooks. They learned how to login to the computer, draw shapes and fill the background in order to design a story.
