October in Preschool Blue

To introduce the topic of ‘farm animals’ we looked at lots of books and sang related songs. The children had fun role-playing the ‘Old MacDonald song’, imitating the correct animal sounds. We played some table games and practised puzzles almost on a daily basis.

The children had lots of sensorial fun and made paper plate pigs, practised drawing a ‘piggy face’ and matched pompoms to numbers 1-5. They made a small world farm with wooden farm figures and kapla. Our creative activities were paper plate pigs and a woolly sheep and the children pretended to be doctors and cared for the sick animals.

Halloween is always an exciting time for children and in Preschool we had lots of fun. The children brought in a Halloween item for our weekly ‘Show-and-tell’ and we made monsters in the ‘Atelier’ using green playdough, googly eyes and pipe cleaners. We sang the ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ song but then changed it to the ‘Big big Spider’! The children made a spider picture, counting to 8 as they added the legs. They played with lots of creepy-crawlies in playdough and in coloured water and then had to rescue them from the tin covered in masking tape. During our weekly ‘Cooking lab’ we made some yummy Halloween biscuits and on the last day we came dressed in our costumes for the Halloween party!

Happy birthday wished to Filippo and Lavinia who both turned 3 this month! Hip hip hooray!

Our next topic of exploration is ‘Changing Seasons-Autumn’. See you all soon!
