After settling into their new school and class, the children of Preschool Yellow have been learning all about… themselves! Beginning with the topic All About Me allows the preschoolers to connect a sense of their identity to this new environment, introduce themselves to the class, and begin to form new friendships as we get to know each other.
We began by getting messy and painting our hands to make a friendship tree to display in the classroom.
Over the course of the week the children made family photo albums using pictures from home. They really enjoyed looking at the photos and talking about their family, and telling me what they were doing in the photos.
We marked out heights on the wall and talked about who was the tallest and who was the shortest (Ms. Rebecca was the tallest!). Later in the year we will check again to see if we have grown.
The class made little versions of themselves, choosing their hair colour and which colour clothes they wanted to wear.
We talked about our favourite colours and our names, as we took part in a fine motor skills creative activity.
We learnt about our bodies too. We read a book about brushing teeth, practised cleaning some very dirty teeth, and then cleaned our own!
And we took turns to draw around our bodies, and draw on hair and faces.
We explored different ways to use our bodies in Music and Gym, banging drums and running, jumping and playing a game with feet!
And in cooking lab we made biscuit figures with heads, arms and legs!
During circle time we learnt each others names by shouting them out as we placed our photos on the wall during the welcome songs. We sang about our clothes by singing: ♫ Have you seen my friend Emily, my friend Emily, my friend Emily? Have you seen my friend Emily, she is wearing _______ today! ♫. And on Friday we brought our favourite books from home for show and tell.
