These last months have just flown by. Surely because we have been super busy in Reception Blue exploring new very exciting projects!
The first project was on healthy food.
We prepared a delicious fruit salad, learning to use real knives to cut our fruit.
We learnt how to wash our vegetables thoroughly,
And had a blind-folded raw vegetables tasting session.
We also prepared a delicious soup.
In literacy, we discovered a very nice story called “Carrot Club”. The supermarket veggies feel left out when they discover a secret club that’s for carrots only. Head down to the vegetable aisle, where a smart-thinking parsnip might just be the key to getting all the veggies into the club and teaching the carrots an important lesson………
We used it as support for many of our activities, like science,
fine motor skills,
Art, like Archimboldo, the painting with fresh fruits,
Maths
And story retelling.
Our second project tuned us into little explorers of our environment… looking at mini-beasts!

We even adopted some in our classroom:
Some ants, some snails, and even some tadpoles we could watch growing and turning into frogs that we eventually released into the pond.
We cooked snails and caterpillars during our cooking lessons!
Finally, it was time to focus on our final project:
Science week and the end of year show.
We built catapults out of Popsicle sticks and rubber bands, and tried to figure out which objects could be thrown farther.
Then we exposed some objects to the sun (pebbles, chocolate, paper clips, crayons, candle) and made predictions about what would happen after some time. Eventually, we checked on our items and drew our conclusions.
We then decided we wanted to help the Gingerbread Man cross the river, so that he didn’t need to ask the fox.
So we built some rafts, with materials we thought could float.
And then we tested our boats!!!
We were so lucky we could organise an event in presence to wrap-up this very special year.
It has been wonderful being able to open a little window on what we have been doing together inside the classroom!
It has been a fantastic year, thank you for your invaluable support and collaboration. I am extremely proud of all the children’ s progress and achievements and wish them all the best as they move forward to Year 1 in September.
