I hope everybody has had a merry Christmas and a happy new year! In Preschool Yellow we had lots of fun with festive crafts and activities in the exciting lead up to Christmas Day.
We learnt new Christmas words and linked them to the songs and crafts we were exploring. At the end of the week I asked the children to guess the words from my descriptions (eg. It’s green, has decorations and a star on top), and they were able to guess them correctly!
The children had their first try at pencil control using Christmas worksheets and enjoyed the new challenge.
We made lots and lots of crafts, including reindeer, tree decorations, pine cone trees, painted t shirts, snowflakes, hot chocolate reindeer, paper stockings and a tree wall display, and Christmas cards.
We also did some festive cooking activities, making fruit snowmen and Christmas shaped biscuits (a few of the chocolate drops went missing!)
The preschoolers even came up with some of their own Christmas play ideas. They used white playdoh to make snowmen, and worked together to build a “fire” during outside play.

To help support your child’s learning at home you could let them help you with simple food preparation. Children love to do “adult tasks” and it will help to encourage their increasing independence. They will also be more likely to try foods if they are proud of helping to make it!
