This week, in the lead up to Christmas, we have been exploring the festive colour of red. Here is the class proudly showing off their red jumpers, trousers and socks after singing our clothes song! ♫ Have you seen my friend Tommie, my friend Tommie, my friend Tommie? Have you seen my friend Tommie, he is wearing RED today ♫
We started off by searching the room for all of the red things we could find.
Then, to carry on the shapes theme from the last topic, we printed with red paper and paint using paper cups. The children recognised the shape and were eager to tell me that they made circles!
They were also given their own personal red books to fill as they wished using a variety of resources, including paper, buttons, feathers, glue, paint and crayons.
As well as exploring other ways to get creative with the colour, using eye droppers and pins.
Maths was incorporated into a ladybird craft, as we counted how many dots they had.
In between the rain we played a traffic light game outside. I showed them the red light to mean STOP and the green light to mean GO. The preschoolers loved running around, and then took their own turns to shout “Red, stop!”, “Green, go!”.
Meanwhile, the class was encouraged to be independent and practise their cutting skills by preparing their own snack. The children were much more interested in eating fruit when they were proud for doing it themselves.
Finally, the countdown to Christmas has begun, so to lead into this next topic we made some beautiful red nosed reindeers!
To support your child’s learning at home parents can encourage children to help prepare their own food, using child friendly knives. Cutting a RED apple or tomato would be perfect!
