The preschoolers are very interested in shapes and really enjoyed the variety of ways in which we explored the topic. We read books and sang songs and looked around our class for shaped objects; we used loose parts such as wooden rings, bamboo cutlery, bottle tops & coloured counters to make different shapes. We filled in shapes with wooden cubes, made shapes with pongo and played shape matching games.
We had lots of fun making star wands which we decorated with glitter and also made shape people which we used for role-play! We made delicious shaped biscuits and used left-over pieces of coloured paper to make a shape body collage. Our class display was based on Kandinsky’s famous painting ‘Squares & concentric circles’ where the children had to follow a sequence based on big, medium & small (they had a little trouble pronouncing KANDINSKY however!).
We made shapes outside with twigs and sticks and went on a ‘shape hunt’; there were shapes everywhere!!
Next week we will exploring the colour ‘red’ and starting our preparations for Christmas! See you soon!
