It’s great to be back!

Hi everyone!!

Boy have I missed being here…  After 7 very long months, the students have finally been able to come back to school and enjoy (with restrictions) each other’s company.

Questions have been asked, by parents and by students, regarding how PE was going to be organised during this very challenging period.  ‘Can we do this?, Can we do that?…’  The answer has predominantly been yes, but again, with unavoidable changes and restrictions.

We have been asked to do things, which probably this time last year, were unheard of.  Keeping a certain distance, respecting others’ space, avoiding physical contact, constantly washing hands, taking turns and above all being patient are just a few things that we have learnt to accept at school in the past month.  Wearing masks appropriately and helping one another to stay safe are now part and parcel of our new PE programme.  Challenging it may be, but not impossible.  I have noticed that if students really want to do something, they will be more receptive to change.  They have learnt to accept this ‘new world’ and will do whatever it takes to move forward in the best possible way.  One skill which we are working hard on is accurate communication.  Constant, clear vocal instructions are fundamental in this period, as distances need to be respected.  Students’ hearing sense is probably being overworked due to the fact that we have our masks on pretty much all the time (bar when students are perfoming a physical task and distances are respected).

Exercises are constantly being adapted and students’ creative side is coming through, as we try to help each other out during this sensitive period in our lives.

More to come from the PE department!
