Last week our class topic was “Yellow”. Perfect for Preschool Yellow, and the children were always happy to point out that this is our special colour!
We incorporated the colour yellow into lots of activities, covering different learning development areas. To try out some expressive arts and design we made a collage using all the yellow crafts we could find in the room, even using yellow paintbrushes and bowls. Next we made sunflowers on paper plates by gluing tissue paper. We also explored colour changes by mixing yellow with other paints, learning that we can use it to make orange, green and brown.
Using our imagination and role playing is another part of being creative. We mixed water and corn flour to serve up some delicious drinks and meals for each other, including coffee, milk, polenta and purè.
The colour yellow helped us to to practice our fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills too. The children used pincers to pick out and sort yellow pom poms and threaded yellow pasta onto string to make necklaces.
Some sensory activities we did included playing with yellow water and feeling to guess what was inside a yellow themed mystery bag.
Otherwise in the week we practiced staying very calm and still to balance dragonflies on our finger, and of course we played outside!
This week we will begin our fairytale project, using the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff!
