Preschool Green – september 2020

Welcome to Preschool Green; Giulio, Maria Vittoria, Valeria, Lea, Giorgio, Mila and Tommaso!

During these first few weeks, the Preschoolers explored the enormous outdoor environment and were enthusiastic to visit all areas; we played in the sandpit, with the tricycles and bicycles and had fun on the swings. We also painted outside, played with water, visited the paddock, dug in the vegetable garden and made delicious ‘nature soups’ in the secret garden.

The children visited their new classroom after the initial first few days of settling in with their parents. We had fun rescuing play animals frozen in ice, playing in the big sensorial tray, painting, singing and role-playing in the ‘Home Corner’. On Tuesday 8th we had our first lunch together as a class group; just like snack time, lunch is an important daily moment when we all sit down together to chat and enjoy the delicious food prepared by our wonderful cooks…in fact, one of the first words the children have learnt to say is ‘delicious’!

‘All About Me’– for our first topic, we made a special ‘Family photo album’ with the photos brought in from home; the children talked about their family, their pets, their homes and their summer holidays. We looked at our facial features in the mirror and then drew a picture of our faces. The children also made a personal ‘mini’ version of themselves on card which they painted, decorated and then added facial features and hair. We also made a ‘Friendship tree’ with our painted hand prints and measured how tall we are.

We are focusing a lot on ‘Personal hygiene and self-care’ whereby emphasis is placed on washing and drying our hands and becoming independent with the bathroom routine. Now that Autumn has arrived, the children are practising on a daily basis how to put on and take off their shoes, crocs, rain suits and rain jackets. As they say, practise makes perfect!

Next weeks topic (week starting 28th) is ‘Exploring the colour Yellow’ and the following week we will begin our first project experience about ‘Fairytales’ (more information will be sent to you about this very soon).

Have a great week!
