Madame Tussaud’s museum has announced that it has removed waxworks of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from its Royal Family section. The decision to remove them from the exhibition came after the couple announced that they were taking a step back from their roles as senior royals.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) came to an agreement with the Queen to utterly step back from their royal duties, starting in spring. The couple initially made an announcement on January 8 about taking a “step back” from their senior roles within the royal family: “We have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within the institution,” the Duke and Duchess of wrote on Instagram.
They decided to stop using their HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles because they want to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support the Queen. Now the plan is to balance their time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour their duty to the Queen and the Commonwealth. This geographic balance (United Kingdom and North America) will enable them to raise their son, Archie, with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing their family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of their new charitable entity.
However, although you may no longer see the waxworks of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with the rest of the royal family, the museum has not removed them entirely. They only moved them to another part of the museum.
