Just January!

Welcome back everyone and we are excited about the new year ahead!

We would like to say a very big ‘WELCOME BACK’ to Diego who has returned to class after 3 months of absence; he has settled back into the daily routine very well and is so happy to be here!

To start of exploring the ‘Winter’ season, we first looked at winter colours such as blue, white and grey. The children enjoyed making different shades of blue, adding food colouring to water, and moving this from one bowl to another using eye droppers.

Phonics; we are currrently exploring letter sounds (s,a,t,i,p,n) which the children are showing a lot of interest in. For the weekly ‘Show-and tell’ they brought in toys/objects which start with the ‘s’ sound…..spider, snake, spoon, sausage, Superman, Spiderman, salt. We also made ‘snowmen’ from toilet roll tubes as well as snowmen biscuits, which we decorated with chocolate drops. The Preschoolers loved our ‘Snowman Factory’ activity, where they could assemble a snowman using cotton discs, felt hats & scarves, twigs, buttons, pompoms and googly eyes.

To further explore the ‘p’ sound, we made penguins and polar bears, which we used for our class display of the ‘North and South Poles’.

We talked a lot about winter and what clothes and accessories we need to keep warm. The children have become very independent in dressing themselves daily for outdoor play; putting on their waterproof suits, jackets, hats, neck warmers, gloves and wellies.

We have been focusing a lot on number recognition this month (0-5) and the children are enjoying the various activities, which also help to develop fine motor skills by using pegs and pincers.

Last weeks music class with Mr. Davide was very fun and interactive; the room was divided into 4 sections; each section required the children to use and move specific parts of their bodies in time with the music Davide played on the guitar. All the children participated enthusiastically!

February topics; we are currently exploring our 2nd project experience entitled ‘Loose Parts’ and look forward to sharing the power point presentation with you all soon. We will also look at the topic of ‘People who help us’.
