Topic: Clothes and accessories: Autumn brings colder weather and therefore the need for warmer clothing as well as accessories. This month the children have been practising almost daily how to dress and undress themselves with their rainsuits, wellies, jackets, crocs and non-slip socks and are becoming more and more independent.
To help develop children’s vocabulary, we played a clothes and accessories bingo game which the children really enjoyed. They brought in some old accessories from home for our dressing up area such as hats, belts, scarves and bags. We had a lot of fun playing the ‘match the socks’ activity which the children hung on the clothes line. We also played ‘Crocs in boxes’ game where children had to find the matching pairs of crocs which were mixed up in shoe boxes.
Orange: Our exploration of Autumn started with the colour orange; we mixed red and yellow paint, water and play dough to make the colour orange and printed with oranges.
Autumn; During cooking lab the children really enjoyed making delicious cornflake and honey cakes which they had for afternoon snack. We collected lots of leaves, acorns and twigs outside and used them in class for our activities.
For our weekly ‘Show-and-tell’ children brought in a variety of nature items such as pumpkins, lentils, chestnuts and pine cones which we used for sensorial and manipulative play.
In December we are exploring shapes and preparing for Christmas.
