October 2019 in Year 3!

We have had another very busy month here in Year 3. Please see below what Year 3 have been working on and learning about in class.

English:

This month the children have been learning about adjectives in their grammar lessons, and from that they went on to think of some spooky adjectives to enable them to write their own Spooky Stories.

The children used a story plan first in order to note their ideas down, followed by a draft of their story plan and then they wrote their stories neatly with an illustration to go with it. Their stories can be seen on the display board both inside and outside of the classroom.

Science:

In Science the children have now completed their sunflower diaries. We spoke about the process of planting a seed, what plants need to grow and what the children needed to do in order to keep their flowers alive! Some of the sunflowers are growing very nicely and some I feel may have had too much water!

Topic:

The children have now finished their topic on Romans which they have loved! The children have looked at Roman Baths, the Roman Empire, Roman buildings, Roman gods, Julius Cesaer and even made their own aquaducts in Art! Year 3 also had a lovely trip to Foro Romano which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Maths

In maths the children have been learning how to tell the time to perfection! After the Fori Romani trip the children learned about centuries and understanding how long ago the statues and buildings they saw were made. Gaining an understanding of time helped them understand when the Romans lived, and how distant as well as similar they are to our own generation.
