We’ve had a very busy month, it’s hard to believe we’ve only been back 4 weeks.
We’ve worked a huge amount on discussing the problem with plastic and thinking about small changes we can make at home and at school. The students have loved learning and thinking about this topic. We even joined in Fridays for Future by suspending lessons and talking about environmental issues. The students then made posters to put around the school. Here a couple of examples. Look out for them around the school!
We’ve also been learning about plants – particularly photosynthesis and reproduction. Did you know flowers have a male and female part? Do you know the role of insects in plant reproduction?

In history we are learning all about the Sumerians. We’ve looked at where and when they lived, why they lives near 2 rivers, how their cities were organised, their writing and their inventions. we’ve still got much more to learn!
September was dedicated to Roald Dahl – his birthday was on September the 13th!
We are reading loads of his books in class and at home. They are so popular that we are queuing up to read each one! We researched his life and wrote a fact sheet about him – we found out loads of information and realised that he also had a very sad life, with many tragedies. We looked in his books to identify adjectives – we found more than 140 in just 10 minutes! We also invented our own character and wrote a description of them. We wrote some really funny and well described pieces. Look along the stairway corridor to see them!
We’ve also been working hard on our first project – water. we’ve linked it to the Sumerians and how water was essential for their lives. We’ve been looking the importance of water around the world today and in our everyday lives. sadly we’ve also looked and spoken a lot about water and pollution – this is something we all feel very strongly about and really hope the future will be cleaner and better for us. We have our trip coming up next to Monte Gelato to look at water in the environment and its flora and fauna. We will also be observing the human impact on water in terms of pollution and uses.
