What an amazing end of year!

June is the most hectic and exciting month here in Acorn House and it has been no exception for Year 1. We got ready for the summer season and made sure our world was ready too by adding a little bit of magic to it.

Then we had so much fun during the fab sports day organized by Mr Alberto. It was so hot though! Feeling the heat made us think and wonder about the effect of the impact the sun has on us and on various object around us. We gathered a collection of different materials like butter, a stone, a crayon, a candle, some ice, some chocolate and we made a prediction about what would happen if we put them in the sun.

By the end of the afternoon we were able to compare the results of the experiment with our prediction.

The day after we had a special mission: to help the Gingerbread Man cross the river without asking for the fox’s help. We decided that we would build some rafts to keep him dry. First, we tested a few materials to check which would float.

Then, in teams we built 4 rafts for our little friend. It was so much fun choosing our material and later checking if our Gingerbread men would stay afloat or would have sunk.

The last day of school arrived in a flash and we still had to dig out our potatoes! This has helped our understanding of the life cycle of potato plants.

Eventually after so much work and so much heat, we were able to chill out and take a refreshing dip in our swimming pool.

Now, just like in the ending of ‘Summer Fairies’, our final jobs are done and the children look in need of a holiday.

“Really, we’re going on a summer holiday?”

“Yes and we are going to take all of our memories with us.”
