Our first topic in April was the colour ‘green‘. To help children understand how we can make the colour green, we read the wonderful story of ‘Little blue and little yellow’ and then explored ourselves how to make green in different ways such as mixing blue and yellow paint, blue and yellow play dough and blue and yellow tissue paper with water. The children really enjoyed these activities and discovered that there are many shades of green. They also brought in green toys/objects from home for our weekly ‘Show-and-tell’ activity. Following on from this we decided to plant some basil seeds and visited the vegetable garden to see all the green herbs and vegetables.
We have been very busy this month making lots of colourful things for Spring such as caterpillars, bees and flowers from egg cartons, beautiful Spring pictures with twigs, coloured tissue paper and painted butterfly pasta. We also made butterfly puppets, the very hungry caterpillar story boards as well as spring bottles.
We celebrated Cultural day, Mexico, with Reception and year 1 and the children explored different labs such as creative (where they made castanets using cardboard and bottle tops), Mexican dances for children, face painting, and song and movement with Mr. Alberto which incorporated basic Spanish words and phrases. The children came dressed in their Mexican themed costumes and at the end of the morning, we had fun with the ‘Piñata‘.
Easter- The children made wonderful little Easter crafts to take home and on the last day of school, they participated enthusiastically in the ‘Easter egg hunt’ and took their chocolate eggs home.
The new Early Years outdoor exploratory play area has been a huge success with the children and we have now named it ‘The Secret Garden’. Mr. Matteo has worked tirelessly to build us new toys and we are very grateful for his effort and commitment. Soon we will have more new things to explore in this area and will keep you updated!
Enjoy the Easter holidays!
