Geographical enquiries, Tudors and Gothic texts!

In history, we have studied the Tudor dynasty. We started with Henry VIII, the most famous of all kings! He married six wives and chopped off the heads of two of them! He was so adamant on getting a divorce from Catherine of Aragon he broke away from Rome, putting himself as head of the Church of England. In his later years, he became paranoid and bad tempered. He executed more people than any other monarch. We went on to discover how his flagship the Mary Rose sunk. We analysed sources and wrote a small essay on what we discovered in our investigation. We looked at Edward VI, Queen Bloody Mary (who really deserved her nickname!) and poor old Lady Jane Grey the nine day queen. She was executed after reigning for only nine days!

In geography, we are concluding our geographical enquiry. We were put in to groups and asked to come up with an enquiry to investigate in and around the school. It was our task to come up with an interesting question, create an hypothesis and investigate it! This is a really big project and we have all come up against obstacles we did not think we would. It has been really enjoyable and next week we will be presenting our findings to Mr Gale, and possibly, Ms Michaela!

In English, we started the ballad as an argument. We first looked at the features of a ballad then we studied the famous ballad from the Arthurian legends called “The Lady of Shallot” by Alfred Lord Tennyson . The next ballad we studied was called “The Highwayman” by Alfred Noyes. After doing some activities on both ballads we wrote an essay comparing both ballads.

In February, we started talking about Gothic stories like “The Castle of Otranto” and later on “Frankenstein”.

In science, we studied renewable energies and talked about their use.

Then we started studying about how waves formed. Then we talked about light waves, how they changed passing through different materials, what were their characteristics and how they worked. Mr Clarke makes our lessons very fun and interesting.
