During the month of December, Year 8 have looked at advertisements and what techniques can be used for slogans, short memorable phrases in advertising. Some of such can be repetition, alliteration, antithesis, and more! We have proven to have understood these techniques by writing an essay.
In history, this month we have studied the Wars of the Roses (1455-1485) as a group research project, which we then explain as a presentation to the class. These battles occurred because the families of the Yorks and Lancasters couldn’t choose who would become king of England. After a few battles, well a few more, okay fine, 14 BATTLES, a treaty was signed from the two houses as Henry Tudor (Lancaster) married Elizabeth of York.
In geography, we looked at urbanisation, which is the movement of people from the countryside to the city, and cities like Manchester. The Year 8 class made presentations in pairs on a city of choice, e.g. Tokyo, Lagos, Tehran,…
In science, we looked at how energy is conserved and what types there are in the world. Some of such are kinetic energy, sonar energy, light, potential energy,etc. We also looked at the Earth’s rotation and revolution around the Sun and what these movements can cause here on Earth. Some are tides, day/night cycle, and seasons.
