Year 3

Winter is Here

In the run up to Christmas, the children of Year 3 have been learning lots about plants and trees. They had the opportunity to view some unusual plants and trees during their school trip to Orto Botanico in Rome. The children saw a tree thats bark is used for cork. This inspired us to create some artwork and retell some facts we have learned on the leaves.

Along with the change of weather. We have noticed the change in colour and frequency of some of the plants around the school. The children compared and contrasted the types of plants we see throughout the seasons.

Mathematics

Within mathematics, we are learning about measuring length. We have looked at the difference between metres, centimetres and millimetres. We explored how long our arms are, our desks, our smart board…and even Miss Beth.

English

The children have been leaning lot about different forms of poetry. Their favourite has been acrostic poems. Here is a fantastic one the one of the children had written in class about charity.

Children involved in charities are normally very poor.

Helping children is great!

Around Christmas we think of them.

Remember to always help when you can.

I will help when I can this Christmas.

Try to save them from a possible hard Christmas.

You’re really kind if you do!
