Last week the Preschoolers went on their first school trip to ‘La Selvotta’ nature park in Formello. In order to prepare the children for the trip, we talked about it in class; where we were going, what we would see, what we had to bring and how we would get there.
On the actual morning of the trip the children arrived to class very excited and happy to show each other their backpacks. When they saw the big coach parked outside the school gates they got very very excited. The trip to the park was quite short but we still had lots of fun looking out the windows watching the passing traffic and fields; the favourite part was when we went through a tunnel and everyone squealed in delight!
On arrival at the park, we were given a warm welcome and met our guide, Nadia. The children had their morning snack and used the bathroom before commencing their exploration of the park. Nadia explained to the children what we were going to do and see, and highlighted the rules which we had to follow (such as staying together and following her, remembering not to over-take!) Firstly we met ‘Dado’ the very fun and friendly talking bird and then we went to see the turtles, who were out of the water and ready to soak up the sun. After this we saw hawks, vultures and owls; the most significant being the ‘eagle owl, which is the mascot of the nature park.
Finally we arrived at the farm area where the children were able to interact and feed the animals such as the goats, sheep, hens, turkeys and the very hungry alpaca. Most of the children were very excited about this while a few were a little hesitant and preferred to observe. We also got to see the donkey and the horse and the beautiful white colombo birds.
After our tour was over, the children sat down in the pic-nic area to have lunch and a little rest after which they explored the fabulous play parks. Overall, it was a very positive and worthwhile trip and the Preschoolers showed interest in everything they saw and were very well behaved! We can’t wait for our next trip!
