Hello everybody!!
Just a quick update on what the students have been doing since we got back from our Christmas break.
The children’s enthusiasm is allowing them to improve the many skills that we are working on (technique, coordination, balance, posture, speed, agility, team work, tactics, emotions, communication/ non verbal communication but above all, respect). The fact that the students are able to accept one another has allowed us all to progress and have lots of fun.
The various exercises has allowed them to explore and gradually understand what our body and mind can do if they are really put to the test. Self confidence is another aspect we are working on. Seeing young peers encourage one another when frustration kicks in is not something you see very often, but amazing when you do. Learning how to work with every single peer and not just friends is hard for children to accept, but we are working extremely hard on adapting to the various circumstances we are faced with. Accepting rules is key for things to click. Managing emotions is another learning curve which students are gradually overcoming. Trying to mange their emotions when they are running a tad high, is an exercise children are finding hard, yet not impossible, to handle.
One could think that the majority of what has been written refers to our older classes. I can assure you that even our younger learners, who also face great challenges, are also working on the previously mentioned skills. A 3 year old child can get frustrated when unable to climb on to a beam, as does a 10 year old child when their team faces defeat. It is all relevant. The children, in their own way, are dealing with all these issues and I must admit, they are doing a great job.
