All in a wink (by Martina C.)

Mary lived in Brazil. She had a secret: she could talk to horses. Only her best friend Alex knew it. Mary and Alex always helped each other. On the 11th of June, Mary’s birthday, her parents let Mary invite four friends for a sleepover. The first she called was Alex, then Robin, Julie and Francesca. As soon as they arrived Mary winked at Alex.  That was their way to say “Forest time” that was the same of  “Adventure and trouble time”. They were used to sneak away at night. That evening they all watched a movie and went to bed. When everybody was asleep Mary got out of bed and silently woke up Alex. He wasn’t really sleeping so he jumped straight out of bed. They quickly got out of the house in their pajamas and started walking through the darkness. As they were in the forest Mary called out loud and clear ”Connie!”. A beautiful Baio horse came galloping towards her. ”Aren’t you my little trikle?” she whispered into Connie’s ear. Connie got closer to Mary’s face. ”I would love to but I’m too scared” said Mary. ”’What did she tell you?” asked Alex. ”She would like me to try galloping with her.”’ ”Then try, do it!” incited Alex. ”Only if you come with me”. ”Ok! Let’s do it!”.  Alex jumped on and they trotted away. Mary loved horse riding. Grasslands and forests always enchanted her. Mary took a deep breath and asked Connie to gallop  in a very loud voice. ”Are you sure? ” asked Connie. ”Yes  super sure!” and they galloped  and galloped. Suddenly a snake appeared from nowhere. Connie  swerved and Mary and Alex fell  on the ground. ”Are you ok?” asked Alex. ”I knew it would have happened!” cried Mary. She tried to run away but Alex  stopped her. ”Don’t give up! Keep on trying, simply follow your dreams.” ”You can’t understand” replied Mary. ”Listen Mary” explained Alex. ”If this is your dream and you really want it to happen, keep trying, trust yourself and it will come true. Go beyond your fear and let it go!” Mary was touched by her friends words but was still scared. ”Repeat with me, I will…” ”I will…” answered Mary. ”Don’t stop!” Alex told her. ”I will!” And she then climbed on Connie’s back. Mary looked at Alex but he just winked at her as they used to do . ”So let’s make it happen, Connie!”, shouted  Mary grabbing Connie’s reins. Mary and Connied disappeared stolen by the darkness. They galloped all night long talking to each other until Mary saw the sun rising. She felt like she wanted to do it again and again. Now she wasn’t scared  anymore and the only thing she wanted to do now was going to thank Alex. She came back just before her friends woke up . Nobody noticed her dirty pajama and her big smile. Only Alex did and again winked at her.  She gave it back to him and whispered: ”Thank you!”
