Year 3 (as well as Acornhouse) has had a large focus on the term ‘bullying’ and what this means. Sadly, bullying can take place anywhere in life, so it is important the children are aware of their own actions as well as others. As a class, we have discussed what makes a bully and how to deal with them.
We have decided that a bully is not a person who has been mean to us once. It is a person who is upsetting us on a regular basis and enjoys to see us sad. We have learned that bullies are often very sad themselves. They are not happy and want to see others sad.
As a class we learned that it is important to stand up to bullies. Year 3 agreed that if we feel we are being bullied OR that we see anyone being bullied we will:
- Tell the bully to stop!

- Try and help the bully, maybe they do not know what hurt they are causing.
- Find the nearest adult (teacher/ parent or trusted adult).
- Help the person being bullied by being brave and stopping the bully.
Bullies can upset us in many different ways. Through violence, words and exclusion. We discussed how all of these make us sad and can be just as bad as each other. In one of our lessons we drew ourselves on a piece of paper. We shouted at the paper, scrunched it up, threw it…then apologized. After we apologized, we tried to make the paper perfectly straight again. We could not. This showed us that saying sorry is great but you can never undo what has been done.
If we refuse to be a bystander to bullying we can make a real difference!
