The Aztecs

This term the children have been learning about The Aztecs for their topic. They have loved being able to compare and contrast their previous learning of The Romans with their new knowledge of The Aztecs.

                  Romans vs Aztecs

We have learned about some of the Aztec Gods. As a class, we gathered information on three Gods in particular and

wrote a non-chronological report about our chosen God for others to read. The children were also eager to draw this God

as they realized that they are often so detailed and colourful.

We also learned about some Aztec inventions. The class were very shocked and thankful for one of the Aztec inventions…hot chocolate.

When exploring Aztec myths, we read the myth, ‘Place of the Prickly Pear. The children had to identify the key events and then create a comic book strip re-telling the story.

As a class we are learning how to locate, explore and link periods, people and events in time and place.  Children used their knowledge of continents to guess where the Aztec Empire may have been situated. We then discussed how this area of land came to be and how it will has changed and altered over time. They were amazed how the Aztecs were so resourceful with such difficult land for both living and crowing crops.

Within science we are leaning about different kinds of food and the food categories we need to keep us fit and healthy. We have discussed common food consumed in Mexico. We are going to make some healthy tortillas when we return to school.
