January – why is it so cold?

Dear faithful readers,

It is very cold and in some parts of Italy it even snowed, that is why the EY team decided to introduce our little explorers to the wonderful world of winter. We took a look at ordinary things (ordinary things for grown-ups maybe but extraordinary for children) as how colors change with the changing of the seasons; as a matter of fact we explored the colors of blue and white and the season of winter.

We also added a little bit of science because our blue fish needed some water.

(we colored water with blue paint!)

Through winter, children had the possibility to pay attention looking at different types of common clothing (scarves, boots, jackets, hats and gloves) and winter animals (as polar bears and penguins).

One day we decided to set a tini tiny stage for role play in the school corridor: “Shoe Shop” where the children had to find their own shoes and buy them back… some of them were pretty upset about it but then, once they got their shoes back, were really happy.

Our little friends had the chance to start exploring the world of Shapes and Letters through Jolly Phonics

However during the last week of January we changed completely our topic and focused on emotions for our very second project. They had the chance to get to know Ms Yellow, Mr Red, Ms Blue and Mr Green. Each child explored and examined his/her facial expression while looking themselves in the mirror. Their face changed if they were happy (smile) or sad (sadface). We also focused on some rules that the EY team tries always to remind children in order to live in a peaceful and respectful environment (say thank you, say sorry, say please). These are the little rules that give the possibility build friendship. As a matter of fact once I saw a sign on a door of a school saying “we come as strangers and we leave as friends.”
