For our weekly ‘Show-and-tell’ the children brought in objects linked to Summer such as clothing items or water/beach toys. We played with the water pistols outdoors during break time which helped us cool down!
Festa dello Scambio: For our end of year performance the children painted yellow ‘smiley faces’ on their t-shirts. They were nervous yet excited to perform in front of so many people and they did very well! Great job Preschoolers!
Science week
First experiment: ‘Floating dinosaurs’. Here we half filled bowls with water and added different sized dinosaurs, observing which ones floated and which instead sank. The children discovered that the heavier dinosaurs were the ones which sank. We also added food colouring to the water, watching how it slowly changed colour.
Our second experiment was ‘frozen dinosaurs’. Overnight we froze some dinosaurs in a big bowl and the day after, we left it under the sun, checking regularly as the ice began to melt. After lunch when the ice had almost completely melted, the children were able to ‘free’ the dinosaurs!
Third experiment: ‘Sticky web’: To help the children understand why spiders don’t get stuck in their own webs we expereimented with sticky tape and oil. First we explained that a spider’s web is sticky and insects stick to it like our fingers stick to tape. We then put oil on our fingers and discovered that they didn’t stick to the tape; just like spiders don’t stick to their own webs because they have oil on their bodies that prevents this!
On the last day of school we had a class party with some yummy treats and celebrated Lorenzo’s and Tiago’s 4th birthdays with two delicious cakes. We then said our goodbyes for the summer! See you all in September!
