The importance of the Periodic Table for future inventions

In this year’s program, we studied The Periodic Table, a topic that I found very compelling. What I liked the most about this topic is that it was incredible how one invention could change the scientific world forever and how important the periodic table is in our daily lives. The periodic table tells us the bases of matter and life, as it lists the elements known to man-kind, natural or man-made. This knowledge can help us make incredible and futuristic discoveries. We have to owe this incredible gift to Dmitri Mendeleev, a Russian chemist that invented the Periodic Table. 

The Periodic Table was invented by Dmitri to make his student’s work easier (he was a teacher) and to list all of the known elements (63, at that time). This invention was meant only for his pupils and for himself but it ended up being used all over the world. Because of his innovative work, the chemist had an element named after him, Mendelevium, a man-made element. 

The scientist also wrote about 400 books about his scientific studies, wrote down the regularities of behaviour and predicted 10 elements, two of which were proven to exist! 

Dmitri’s life was an incredible one as he discovered many things that changed the world and left a mark for future generations to study, something that without it we would have probably never made the progress that we have during the last century

To conclude, it is thanks to Mendeleev that we know so much about the elements and about life on earth. This discovery is one of the most revolutionary finds of the last centuries and can help us in the future and in the present to understand and find out new and fascinating things about our planet and about space.
