Another tournament and another great experience. After AOSR’s great events, it was Ambrit who decided to host two great events. They held 4 tournaments (U11 & U14 girls / U11 & U14). AHI took part in both the U11 tournaments, which were on two separate Saturdays. The latter, which took place on March 11, saw our boys finish third in what was a very competitive and fair tournament. The boys played catch up from the first kick as Ambrit and St Georges (eventual finalists) beat our brave Y5 and Y6 students (5-2 and 3-1 respectively). Regardless of the first two setbacks, our boys did not give up and won three out of the next four matches, with the last one ending in a draw. Their final rivals were Rome International (W 1-0), St Thomas (W 3-0), Castelli (W 3-1) and a second St Georges team (D 1-1). They never gave up and contributed to a brilliantly organised tournament and we thank Ambrit for their great hospitality. A mention must go to those parents who were selling cakes and coffee to raise funds for the Turkey/ Syria victims. A great intiative and thank you once again. Parents who also came along on a Saturday morning to cheer on their children were also amazing. Well done! Can’t wait for the next one.
Now for the girls… AMAZING! Our young stars were proclaimed the U11 champions after winning three out of the four games played but above all, the team did not conceed a single goal throughout the tournament! One doesn’t realise how far this group has come. Well done to every person involved.
The girls started their tournament with a 0-0 draw against St Georges, who were the eventual finalists. The second match saw our young superstars beat Ambrit 1-0 with what was pretty much the last kick of the game. By winning the match, our girls topped their group with four points, which meant that the semi final would be against Castelli. A very early goal decided what was a very tough yet competitive semi final. A mention must go to our goalkeeper, who kept everyone at bay. Well done! Now on to the final…
Having played them at the beginning of the tournament, the girls were well aware of St Georges’ virtues, who, I might add, played the game in the right spirit. Tiredness started to kick in but our girls battled until the end and came out comfortable winners. Three goals by three different players decided the final, but it was a great team effort all round. Please join me in congratulating our young stars, who were amazing from start to finish.
All in all both tournaments should be considered successful for both the boys, who improved in every single game and the girls, who topped the tournament. You were all amazing! Well done.
