Year 9 have begun their historical adventure with a ‘world turned upside down’. Charles I is making many mistakes as King. He’s annoying parliament and Parliament is annoying him. They want more power in the running of the country, whilst Charles believes he was chosen by God to rule alone. Well, he does rule alone. And he made even more mistakes. What will we do with you Charlie boy? What will we do? Compromise? Or is it just easier to have a war? Year 9 will find out really soon!
In geography, we looked at how globalisation has transformed our world into the modern, technological, shrunken world we love today. It took thrity years for French fashion to reach London in the 17th Century, whereas today sending a message to a friend across the oceans takes seconds. We have developed massively. But there are negatives to be considered here, too. LEDC’s lose out massively through corruption, advantage taking, and poor working conditions. MEDC’s treat LEDC workers like we used to treat workers 200 years ago. We also send all of our plastic waste to poor countries, too. If we cannot get rid of it, what do we think poor countries do with it all? Oh, right… oceans, plastic, problem, big. Globalisation is a massive part in our society; it does have a dark, sinister side which must be examined, too. Year 9 are delving into this problem this year…
