It has been another fantastic year for the students as they continue through their Middle School journey. Our historical essay writing has taken off and the students are able to write evidence based answers to complex questions. This is essential to their development as they climb up the academic ladder and their study of the world takes a more in depth approach to learning. This sets them up well for what is coming in Year 9.
The students have done well in mastering the more human geography studied this year. We looked at the rising population and how the agricultural difficulties faced with feeding our rising numbers affect the environment and arguably the future of our planet. They were successful in assessing the employment structures throughout the world and how LEDCS operate much differently than MEDCS. Workers rights around the world differ so much and we should think twice before buying products such as Nike and Adidas, or buying products from Primark. Their workers are paid less in a month than what many in the Year 8 class would cut the grass for. It is essential for the students to understand how the world operates today and this will help them deal with what is to come in Year 9.
