In history, we delved straight back into the historical essay. This time, was Nelson the reason for Napoleon’s defeat at Trafalgar? Was it planning, leadership or the famous ‘crossing the T’ tactic? We answered all these questions in our first historical essay of the year.
In geography, we discovered our world is shrinking. Yes, correct – shrinking! Not physically, of course! Our world is becoming smaller and smaller due to the increasing interconnectedness of trade, culture, values, clothes and technology. We are learning how connected we are to parts of the world we have never even been to! Information travels across the globe at a rate never previously known, but is this globalisation a god for the world or does it come at a cost?
Additionally, we are making another geographical enquiry on plastic use in Acorn House. We did this last year and it is time to see IF the school has taken action to reduce plastic use in the school. Stay tuned for our highly anticipated investigative work!
In English, To Kill a Mockingbird has been the focus of our studies. We looked at historical background to the novel and technical devices that Harper Lee used, such as symbolism, ellipsis narrative and characterisation. We also discussed what makes a good father by analysing Atticus’ parenting skills.
