Mr Clarke teaches us English. In the past month we have been studying a very interesting subject, Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet is one of the most well known play scripts written by William Shakespeare. Mr Clarke, is also our Grammar teacher and we have been learning tenses: for example past perfect and present perfect continuous. He also teaches us Science, in which we have been learning variation: the differences between species.
Mr Gale is well known for his deep voice, and for his wonderful teaching in history and geography. In history, we’ve been studying life in the middle ages: cleanliness, sickness, houses, fun (even though it’s not that fun), farming, punishment and religion! We were put in to our House Groups and we have to create an informative, well decorated pamphlet called ‘Life in the Middle Ages! It is a lot of research, but we have managed to give our group certain jobs to do so we can all bring it together at the end!
In geography, we’ve been studying rivers, how they’re ‘fed’ by rainwater and the water cycle.
Rivers are fed by rainwater that runs off the surface of the ground (surface run-off); water that flows through the ground (throughflow) and groundwater (water that is stored in the ground, called aquifers). We learned about erosion, transportation and deposition – the three processes that rivers do! We also learned how meanders can form ox-bow lakes and how to prevent flooding! We have really enjoyed this topic and look forward to looking how our coastal environment changes, but that’s next month!
