Hello, we are Year 7 and this is our blog about the English topics. We are very excited about middle school and it has been awesome being here this past month and we are looking forward to our next 3 years at Acorn House Middle School.
We like the teachers because they are funny, each in their own way! Mr Clarke is very polite and he cares about his job and his students. Mr Gale is very fun and cool but he is also a great teacher and concentrates on his work. Miss Torrez (we know it’s Torres but… you know… comical effects) is scary, but also funny and we always enjoy her lessons. We are really excited to do amazing experiments with her. Mr Walker is funny and we like when he makes funny voices, he is a GREAT artist. Mr Canto is very fun and we love the activities that we do in P.E with him. He takes his work very seriously.
In Mr Gale’s History lessons, we have been studying the Vikings and primary and secondary sources. Did you know they never had horns on their helmets? In Geography, we have been studying evolution and how the world developed over 4.5 billion years! In Reading Comprehension, we did The English Language and it was cool because there were weird non-electronic printers that William Claxton took back from Holland called the printing press. This allowed many people to read in English, like you are now!Every Thursday, we have Reading hour and we stop reading about 10 minutes before the end of the lesson to write a small summary so that when we finish our books we can easily write a final book review (smart huh?).
In Mr Clarke’s English classes, we wrote a biography of the Viking Beowulf, it was hard but in the end all of us completed our work. We had the most awesome Grammar lesson where we thought we had learned more in one lesson than in a whole elementary school year.
In Mr Walker’s technical drawing lessons, we have been working on the basic things such as how to use a compass and a set square but anyway, we have to get used to Middle School and all the other classes and topics.
With Mr Canto we have been playing new games like badminton.
In Miss Torrez’s (again, comical effects) science lessons, we learned about safety in a lab and safety in general. We think we all agree that we loved those lessons because it was cool to correct people in drawings. We also saw a video on how to use different fire extinguishers.
We have really enjoyed the first few weeks of Middle School and look forward to telling you all about it next month!
