Well, Year 7 have certainly learned a lot this year! From the end of the Viking reign all the way to completing a booklet on what life was like in the Middle Ages! They made great booklets with lots of awesome pictures and lots of description about whether there was fun in the Middle Ages, was there medicine? What was the food like? What were the houses like? How did they survive? What was farming like? How did towns emerge and what did they bring to people? How did people travel? Did you know most travel for cargo was actually done on boats! How did the keep clean? Twigs as toothbrushes…YUCK! Doctors would taste your urine to find out if you were ill, and if you were, they would release some blood to balance out the humours! What were punishments like? Were they fair? Freedom? Was there freedom? Well, that depended where you found yourself in the feudal system. Most were at the bottom of that, so…yeah, free to do lots of hard work!
After the wonderful trip to the Isle of Wight, Year 7 went on a deep journey to discover more and more about how the coasts of our world are constantly changing! With the power of our waves we learned about erosion, transportation and deposition. The three ways our coasts are constantly changing in front of our eyes. We saw how longshore drift shapes our beaches and can even take them away if we are not careful! We discovered how a constant battering from the waves can form incredible landforms such as headland, caves, and arches and eventually stacks – like the beautiful Needles on the Isle of Wight. We also saw that with this constant change, houses on the shore are at risk! They could literally fall into the sea!
