May in Preschool!

Outdoor fun – With the good weather the children have been spending more time outdoors; we have gym lessons in the sports field and every afternoon we enjoy activities outside.

Russia – This year the whole school cultural project focused on Russia; the children brought in many objects from home including books, toy animals and nesting dolls which we used for math activities such as size ordering and counting. We were lucky to spend a morning assembly with a Mother from Russia who brought in toys, costumes and chocolates and who showed us many images linked to Russian culture.

In class for role-play we chose to focus on the Russian fairytale ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and the children acted out the story line, dressed in costume. We also looked at the colours of the Russian flag and recreated this in lab through painting.

Transport- The children really enjoyed our exploration of ‘transport’ and they learned some new vocabulary such as truck, motorbike and helicopter. They brought in a variety of things from home for our weekly’ show-and-tell’ and shared their toys with each other. We role-played travelling on the aeroplane, where the children took turns to be the pilots and the flight attendents. We also role-played one of our favourite songs, ‘The wheels on the bus’.

Cooking – We recently explored the Spring season in class looking at nature and minibeasts. During cooking lab the children were eager to make caterpillars, butterflies and flowers using fruit and especially enjoyed eating them! Yummy!!
