MARCHING FOR OUR LIVES

March for Our Lives was a demonstration led by students from different schools in the United States supporting better gun control.  This event took place in Washington DC, and in at least 800 other cities all over the world, on Saturday March 24th 2018. Millions of people, including celebrities and certain politicians, gathered on the streets with placards all about gun control and peace.  It was a reraction from young American people to another school shooting that had taken place in the previous month.

On the 14th of February 2018, a 19-year-old entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (in Parkland, Florida) with a semi-automatic rifle and started shooting at the students. Seventeen deaths were recorded and another seventeen people were injured. It was classified as one of the deadliest school massacres. The perpetrator, Nikolas Cruz, was an ex student of the school who had already been warned for a pattern of disciplinary issues and unnerving behaviour. The police later found out that the same Cruz had already threatened to become a school-shooter and that he had posted a video on YouTube confirming it.

After the tragedy that Douglas High School endured, a courageous and fierce student named Emma Gonzalez gave a speech at the March For Our Lives event, in remembrance of her fellow classmates. In her speech, she focused on the fact that it took only six minutes and twenty seconds to take the lives of seventeen innocent people.

Now, Florida’s Government has extended the age to have a gun to 21 and there will be more control near schools and public zones from various law enforcement agencies.
