It’s hard to believe how many great things we’ve done this year in Year 2! Our learning journey just keeps getting more and more interesting, and the last two months have been no exception!
One of our favourite class moments is- and I know it’s hard to believe- SPELLING! We have so much fun during spelling practice that we look forward to the weekly spelling test, and now that we, the kids, get to be the teacher and write the correct spellings on the board it’s gotten even better! All of this practice and enthusiasm has us really thinking hard about sounding out words when we try to spell on our own!
As you’ve probably seen on our display board in the hallway, in our last literacy topic we got to write our own short stories about nothing other than a teacher with magical powers! If you haven’t had a chance to read our stories, make sure you come have a peek before we take them down.
We’ve started a new topic in literacy and this time we’ll be looking and instructions. We thought it wouldn’t be as much fun as writing a story but boy! Were we wrong! For our first practice we had to write instructions about, you’ll never believe this, how to be naughty!
Turns out we know a lot about what naughty kids do… Who would have thought?
In maths we’ve started multiplying and are becoming really good at our 2, 5 and 10 times tables! And we’ve also been busy learning how to read the time. In grammar, on the other hand, we’re continuing to develop our understanding of parts of speech focusing, this time, on adjectives.
And let’s not forget the trip we took to Explora to learn about different sources of energy.
We then got to put this learning into practice by conducting our own experiment in class. We were given everything necessary to build a small circuit and we had to try to get the lightbulb to work. Many of the teams managed to work it out!
After a well deserved Easter break we’ll return with more exciting learning!
