The Tudors have been the forefront of Year 8 history this month. We discovered why Henry VIII broke away from Rome and created the Church of England – so he could have a divorce! NO, nothing to do with religion at all…Pure Power! He destroyed the monasteries and gained a lot of wealth by doing so!
We also discovered why his youngest son, not his daughters, took the crown after his death. Edward VI died young, however, and the battles between Catholicism and Protestantism engulfed Britain for centuries after. We researched the heart breaking story of poor old Lady Jane Grey, and how evil Queen Bloody Mary could be.
In geography, the class are still pursuing an end to their geographical enquiry. These takes a long time to complete, as there is a lot of planning and preparing to do. The kids are on their own here. They plan, complete and present it all themselves. I have given them hints, of course.
