Hello everyone!
Just a quick update on what has been going on in our Gym lessons.
EY & FS: Children are really starting to show their true colours and really gaining confidence as the days go by. With the various obstacle courses they are presented with, children are gradually beating their fears (heights being top of the list). Trusting me and also themselves is something that we have been working on so that they become slightly more independent. Seeing how children are trying to work out how to overcome an obstacle is brilliant. What is even better is when a child learns something from a negative experience (for example falling off an apparatus and maybe hurting themselves). More to come from our little warriors.
KS1: We have been working in pairs quite often so that children can start to learn how to trust their peers and obtain the same goal together. We have been using bean bags and soft tennis balls so that children can learn how to adapt when using different equipment. Hand eye coordination exercises are always present in our classes but distance control exercises have also been introduced. Reacting negatively to a peer’s mistake is something we have been working on and children are starting to understand that together things can be achieved easier.
KS2 & KS3: Games, games and more games are top of Ks2 and Ks3’s agendas. Ball handling, movement, tactics, awareness, notion of space are just a few things that children have been working on whilst playing the various games I have presented to them. I have been impressed with the children’s ability and willing to play the various games in the right manner. Dealing with rules is never easy but I have to say that the majority of the kids are respecting these rules but above all they are respecting their peers.
The children are all developing and improving the various skills previously mentioned, but I forgot to mention one important thing, they are all having FUN!
Having said all this, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!
Mr Alberto.
