November fun in Preschool

At the start of November, we started to ‘explore the colour orange’. The children mixed red and                                                                     yellow paint and red and yellow playdough to make orange. We made a sunny dish with oranges and                                                   mandarins during cooking lab and also printed with oranges and mandarins. We used a painted paper                                                       plate to make a lion face, using fusilli pasta as the mane!

The children had lots of fun with phonics related activities for the sound ‘s’.……..they used nature items and mud to make two big ‘s’ collages. We used das to make a ‘s’ which was decorated with coloured beads and also made long snakes which the children brought home. The children also learnt the sound for the letter ‘s’ and the related song about the ‘snake in the grass’.

AUTUMN ACTIVITIES

In class we made beautiful Autumn pictures using cork tops to represent the different coloured leaves. We collected lots of acorns outside and the children brought in chestnuts and pine cones which we used for activities specifically linked to developing and refining fine motor skills (such as using elastics and pincers). We used toilet roll tubes to make leaf people and used play people, animals and logs during small world play. We also used different coloured wool to wrap around cardboard leaf templates which made beautiful decorations.

During one cooking lab we made cornflake cakes with chocolate and honey which were very very yummy!                                               The following week we explored Autumn foods using our senses of sight, smell, touch and taste. These included grapes, pears, oranges, pomegranate, kiwi, chestnuts, walnuts, cachi and dried fruits. The children helped make orange juice and some even tasted pomegranate juice.

As the days started to get colder, the Preschoolers have been practising on a daily basis how to put on and take off their jackets, rain boots and rain suits thus helping them to become more autonomous. Some children who are already capable in doing these things have been helping others. The childen have had many fun moments outdoors in our beautiful school park.
