It’s been a busy two months of school for us over in the Year 2 class!
Our first project experience, Explorers, has taken us on an amazing journey!

Learning about Christopher Columbus, the Sun and the Earth was only the first part of this fascinating topic. As November begins we will embark on the second part of our journey. Direction? Up, up, into the sky to learn all about Neil Armstrong and the Solar System.
As we like to learn both inside and outside of the classroom, we went on our second field a few weeks ago. There, at the Museo Zoologico, we got to take a closer look at many of the animals that we share our planet with. We focused mainly on animals living in an aquatic habitat, linking to the Italian curriculum and our upcoming topic about the Oceans.
For our in class learning, on the other hand, we’ve been looking at more complicated spelling patterns and parts of speech. We now know all about silent letters and nouns!
And we’ve even started to become writers, using our senses to write a color poem.
Everyone knows October would not be October without …. HALLOWEEN
We celebrated in style this year!
To get into the Halloween spirit we read The night before Halloween
by Natasha Wing. After sequencing the story, we decided to imagine what the spooky creatures in OUR haunted house were doing to prepare for their Halloween party, and made a display for the hallway.
We were witches and wizard in our math class and had to solve mental additions and subtractions to get the ingredients for our magic potions. There definitely was magic in the air; using nothing but our fingers we could make the ink of the cards disappear to reveal the answer to the operations we’d just solved.
To wrap up the day we went on a Halloween Treasure hunt, solving 9 riddles to find our bag full of treats,
had great halloween snacks, and of course a party, with more snacks, some dancing and silly pictures.
