Welcome back to Year 6!
We have had a busy couple of weeks settling back into our new routine and adjusting to being back in the classroom after a long holiday! To ease the transition we began our project work straight away and… So far, so good! We have been exploring how the Greeks have influenced modern life from language and maths to politics.
We had a fun practical lesson measuring diameter and circumference while exploring the work of Archimedes and his contributions to calculating pi. We will be continuing our cross curricular work in History and writing our own quest adventures with an ancient Greek theme. To support our writing and language development, we are reading Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Some of the children have seen the film and some have brought their own copies into school to follow the story more closely. We are enjoying the book so far and I hope that this will encourage those children who are more reluctant to read.

Just around the corner we have our Sicily trip and I’m not sure who is more excited, the children or the teachers! It really is a fantastic experience and I cannot wait for us to spend the week immersed in all things ancient Greek.
Alongside our ancient Greece project we have started another important project… Project Grammar! Needless to say, the children are really excited about being bombarded with parts of speech, clauses and a wealth of punctuation rules. Practice makes perfect.
Now that we have our heads back in the game, we are looking forward to a busy year of learning with a little bit of fun sprinkled here and there. Thank you in advance to the Year 6 parents for your ongoing support and encouragement at home, this will be vital this year!
