During the month of January the children engaged in many different activites/learning experiences linked to ‘Winter’ and to the colours ‘Blue and white’. To start of our winter class display, we painted a blue and white background and then added our paper plate snowmen, our snowmen collages and our beautiful snowflakes. The children made blue and white collages and brought in toys/objects from home of these colours. We looked at many books and images about Winter, related to nature, clothing and animals.
During cooking lab we made marshmallow snowmen which the children thoroughly enjoyed. We had lots of fun oudoors all wrapped up for the cold weather and practised a lot of self-care skills such as putting on our waterproof suits, rain boots, jackets, scarves, hats and gloves.
In Early Years we engage in many sensorial activities on a daily basis to help extend fine motor skills and concentration as well as to develop hand-eye-object coordination. Here the children are playing with water, washing the cutlery from the home corner. We also played with blue water which they loved and experimented with playdough and pasta; each of us making a unique creation.
The children love to sort by colour, whether it be with objects or with a puzzle or a game, and of course everyone has their favourite colour!
During role-play, the children play in the home corner cooking, looking after the dolls, feeding them, dressing them and putting them to sleep or going shopping with them!
